Documenting a food safety complaint

Good evidence, collected promptly, makes any complaint, official or on this platform, far more useful.

What to collect

Photos of the product, its packaging (all sides), batch/lot number, and the manufacturing/expiry dates.

Your purchase receipt or invoice, which also carries the seller's or manufacturer's FSSAI number.

If eating out: the establishment's name, address, and any FSSAI number or hygiene rating displayed.

A plain description of what happened and when, written as soon as possible while details are fresh.

If you were unwell, note symptoms, when they started, and whether you sought medical attention, without self-diagnosing the cause.

Keep the product and packaging

Keep the item and its packaging safely (not thrown away) in case an official authority or lab needs to examine it.
