What to look for

Every pre-packaged food sold in India must carry: the common/true name of the food, a list of ingredients (for multi-ingredient foods), nutritional information, a veg (green dot) or non-veg (brown dot) symbol, net quantity, the FSSAI logo and 14-digit licence/registration number, a batch/lot number, and date marking (manufacture/packaging and use-by/expiry), under the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020.

Allergens such as gluten cereals, milk, egg, fish, crustaceans, peanuts/tree nuts, soy, and sulphite at 10 mg/kg or more must be declared separately as 'Contains...'.
